Scheduled Group Outings in the Conejo Open Space

The following outings in the Conejo Open Space are offered by various organizations and hike leaders including (but not limited to) the Conejo Recreation and Park District, the Conejo Group Sierra Club, and the Outdoors Club. None of the outings are offered by the Conejo Open Space Foundation. The information listed is believed to be correct, however the Conejo Open Space Foundation assumes no responsiblity for any errors, changes, omissions, trail hazards, accidents, or other aspects of the outings.

Mon   August 25   6:00pm   Autumn Ridge Hike in Lang Ranch
Outdoors Club

Free! Pre-registration required. Intermediate 7.3 mile hike with 1,300' elevation gain. Come on out and enjoy nature on the trails! Look out for frogs, glow worms, snakes, bats, red-tailed hawks, owls, deer, squirrels and weasels. Every Monday is different, hiking the extensive trails in the Lang Ranch Open Space with wonderful views of Simi, Thousand Oaks and all the way to the ocean. Approx 2.5 hours. Free! Moderate 6 mile round trip loop with lake and urban mountain views. Bring water, food and lug-soled shoes. Meet at the trailhead. Directions: Travel north on the 23 Fwy toward Moorpark; exit at Sunset Hills Blvd. and turn right onto Sunset Hills and continue 0.25 miles to Erbes Road; turn left onto Erbes and continue 0.7 miles to the trailhead parking lot. Pre-registration and $6 per person fee required. 805-495-2163. Ages 6+. Take a moderate, hike into Wildwood and learn all about bats. Lights will be set up at the caves where we will watch bats. Location: Wildwood Nature Park.

Pre-registration and $6 per person fee required. 805-495-2163. Ages 6+. Enjoy this moderate, two and a half mile interpretive hike across Stagecoach Bluff to Lizard Rock. Watch the sun set and the moon rise. Location: Wildwood Nature Park.

Conejo Recreation and Park District - Open Space Appreciation Hike

Free! Moderate 5 mile round trip with an elevation gain/loss of about 900 feet. Great switch-back trail from Triunfo Park up to Los Robles trail. Loop around White Horse Canyon Trail to the ridge, then back down Triunfo Trail. Bring water and lug-soled shoes. Sunscreen and light-color clothing are recommended. No pets. Free! Easy to moderate 3-4 mile round trip hike to view the sunset at 6:49 P.M. (end of Civil Twilight 7:14 P.M.). Meet at 5:30 pm at the trailhead at the end of Lang Ranch Parkway off of Westlake Blvd., one block south of Avenida de Los Arboles. Bring water, flashlight, food and lug-soled shoes. Free! Share your love of the outdoors with others while gaining leadership and instructional skills and improving your natural history knowledge. Let us train you to lead environmental education walks for local groups. Topics will include local history, ecology, hike safety, and other cool stuff. Conejo Recreation and Park District - Open Space Appreciation Hike

Free! Moderately Strenuous 7 mile loop with an elevation gain/loss of about 1700 feet. A pleasant trail follows Arroyo Conejo from Newbury Park to the Lynnmere Trail loop, above Wildwood Park. Nice views of the Barranca, Hill Canyon, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, and Wildwood Park. Bring water and lug-soled shoes. Sunscreen and light-color clothing are recommended. No pets. From 101, drive ¼ mile north on Ventu Park Rd. Turn right at Rancho Conejo Playfields. Trailhead is at the east end of the parking lot. For more info, call CRPD at 805-495-2163.

Sat   November 8   9:00am-4:00pm   Sycamore to the Sea
Conejo Recreation and Park District

Pre-registration and $20 per person fee required. All Ages. Enjoy the scenic views in Sycamore Canyon with your family as you take a moderate eight and a half mile hike from Newbury Park to the beach. A buffet picnic on the beach will be provided followed by a shuttle bus ride back to Newbury Park. Call the Conejo Center Outdoor Unit at 805-495-2163 to have a registration form sent to you. Early registration recommended; limited spaces available.

Sat   November 15   9:00am-11:30am   Lizard Rock, Paradise Falls, Indian Creek
Conejo Recreation and Park District - Open Space Appreciation Hike

Free! Moderate four and a half mile loop in Wildwood Park with an elevation gain/loss of about 750 feet. Moonridge and Stagecoach Bluff Trails to Lizard Rock, then down (past the water treatment plant) to the stream. We'll stop for a break at the campground where restrooms and water fountain are available. Then upstream to Paradise Falls, with steps leading down to the pool beneath the falls. Finally, we’ll hike out by way of Indian Creek Trail. Bring water and lug-soled shoes. Sunscreen and light-color clothing are recommended. No pets. Drive to west end of Avenida de Los Arboles.
