Conejo Open Space Foundation Fall Membership Drive
The primary purposes of the Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) are to raise funds to promote and maintain the open space and multi-use trails of the Conejo Valley, and to educate the citizens, especially the children, as to their roles as custodians and protectors of the open space and the environment. The Foundation works closely with Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) staff, publishes open space maps, and provides up-to-date information via www.cosf.org. COSF is entirely self-supporting and is funded through yearly memberships, donations, and grants. Funds received by COSF are highly leveraged by the extensive use of unpaid community volunteers and other in-kind donations. Members of the COSF Board of Directors receive no monetary compensation for their services. In the past year, COSF’s activities and achievements included the following:

  • 590 volunteers participated in programs that COSF supports: Trail Work Days, Trails Education Days, Trail Watch, Trail Patrol, Adopt-a-Trail, and Resource Management.

  • 3,909 hours of volunteer labor were contributed to these Conejo Open Space programs.

  • $78,180 is the estimated monetary value of this volunteer participation - a significant portion of the annual COSCA operating budget.

  • $35,000 is the amount the Foundation contributed to the Conejo Canyon Bridge project, thanks to generous contributions from open space supporters. Installation of the bridge is now complete and provides access to the Western Conejo Canyons area, including Hill Canyon and the Western Plateau.

Among the Foundation’s goals for 2011–2012 is to provide funding for Conejo Canyons trails in the area of the new bridge.
