Conejo Open Space Annual Trail Work Day
The Conejo Open Space Annual Trail Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2009, so mark the date on your calendar. This year’s worksites are currently being determined and details will be published soon. For more information call COSCA Park Rangers at 805-381-2741.

At last year’s Trail Work Day, over 180 volunteers turned out to make the event a great success. Groups from CLU, COSCA staff, scouts, Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council, Sierra Club, bike clubs, Newbury Park High School, equestrian groups, and many individual volunteers participated. The work included sections of trail realignments on Saddle Pass Trail (North Ranch near Bowfield Street) and on Potrero Ridge Trail (east of Via Las Brisas). Significant work was also accomplished at the Conejo Valley Botanic Gardens, and on Lindero Canyon Creek Trail.

Wildwood Park Native Plant Garden
Have you noticed the native plant garden in the Wildwood Park main parking lot? The garden was established, and is maintained by one Conejo Recreation and Park District volunteer – a wonderful example of the impact that volunteer work can have. Plant identification signs were recently added. Also, printed information about the plants in the garden, and about plant communities and wildlife of the Conejo Open Space is now available from a dispenser at the garden. Please visit the garden often and watch as it continues to grow.

Community Outreach
Conejo Open Space Trails Advisory Committee (COSTAC) and Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) volunteers plan to staff an information table at Wildwood Park on Saturday August 29, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Free information about the Conejo Open Space, such as trail maps, hike and event schedules, environmental education, and COSCA volunteer opportunities will be offered to park visitors. We will also be gathering public opinion on Wildwood’s Native Plant Garden, interpretive signs on select trails, and public interest in a self-guided walking tour to Paradise Falls. Anyone wishing to volunteer for the outreach should contact Ann at trailwatch@cosf.org.
