Upcoming trail maintenance outings in the Conejo Open Space
The following two outings are joint projects with the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council. All volunteers are welcome.

   Saturday 3/14/09 8:30a.m. Conejo Open Space Special Trail Work Day

   Trail work will be in the Dos Vientos area.
   Contact Jerry for directions to the meeting place.

   Saturday 3/28/09 8:30a.m. Conejo Open Space Spring Trail Work Day
   Leader: Burt Elliott 805-498-2475
   The project in the Thousand Oaks area is to be determined.

Remembering Milt McAuley
The photo and following excerpt are from the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council website (www.smmtc.org):

“Milt McAuley was a long time and very active member of the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council. Milt helped to plan and promote the Backbone Trail, wrote popular and authoritative books on local hiking trails and native plants, and regularly led trail maintenance outings. It was with great sadness we learned of his death on December 10, 2008.”

A memorial will be held on Sunday March 8, 2009 at Paramount Ranch to celebrate Milt’s life. This event is sponsored by the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council in cooperation with the National Park Service. For details visit http://www.smmtc.org/miltmcauley.htm


Adopt-A-Trail Update
The Adopt-A-Trail program is part of the COSCA (Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency) Volunteer Corps. This program is designed to encourage local participation in the on-going maintenance, improvement, and building of Conejo Open Space trails. “Adopters” agree to be responsible for the maintenance and/or development of their adopted trails or trail segments.

Rick Koppel, Adopt-A-Trail program coordinator, announces the adoption of four more Conejo Open Space trails! The new adopters and the trails they have adopted are:

   Dolores Cook – Oakcreek Canyon/WholeAccess Trail

   Paul Mahannah - Santa Rosa Trail

   Jason Baker – A trail in the Dos Vientos area

   Kim Odian – A trail in Wildwood Park
