CRPD hike on July 12 to introduce new COSCA trailhead
The trailhead and parking lot on Reino Road, north of Lynn Road are now open, giving Conejo Open Space trail users convenient access to some of the trails in the Dos Vientos area of Newbury Park. To introduce the new trailhead, the Conejo Recreation and Park District is sponsoring an extra hike this month in its Open Space Appreciation Hike Series. Please join CRPD on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. for a 7 mile hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1200 feet.

From the Reino Road parking lot, the trail immediately ascends the hill to the west where the views are of the nearby urban development immediately below, the Conejo Valley and it's beautiful surrounding mountains to the east, and Mugu State Park to the south. After crossing Via Las Brisas and continuing west, the distant vistas are of Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, the vast open space and mountains, and (on a clear day) two of the Channel Islands. The hike destination is a point that overlooks the agricultural fields of Camarillo and Oxnard, and the Pacific coastline. Return is by way of the same trails.

The hike is free. Pre-registration is not required. Meet at the trailhead. From Lynn Road, drive north on Reino Road 0.2 miles. Parking lot is on the left. Bring 1-2 quarts of water and a snack. Sunscreen, lug-soled shoes, and light-color clothing are recommended. No pets. No open-toe shoes. Hikers under 18 must be with a responsible adult. Rain or fire cancels. If temperatures are extremely high, leaders may opt for a shorter route. For more info call the Conejo Recreation and Park District Outdoor Unit at 805-495-2163.
