Trails Education Days
The Conejo Open Space Foundation supports the Conejo Open Space Trails Advisory Committee (COSTAC) in coordinating this annual environmental education program for Conejo Valley fifth graders. More than 20,000 students have taken part in Trails Education Days since its inception in 1991. This year's T.E.D. event, April 23 through April 27, 2007, is expected to be attended by more than 1600 Conejo Valley Unified School District students. The event begins with a nature hike, followed by various programs including animal demonstrations, trail safety and courtesy, and presentations by Park Rangers. In a writing contest, the students describe things they learned during their Trails Education Days, such as information about various plants and animals, the ecology of the area, human impact on the environment, or thoughts on how we might better protect our natural resources.

Conejo Open Space Foundation at Arbor/Earth Day
Thousand Oaks Arbor/Earth Day is scheduled for April 21st at Conejo Creek Park from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. With more than 100 exhibitors, entertainment, free trees/plants, compost, and hands-on children's activities, this is an event that makes environmental education fun for the whole family. The Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) will host a booth at the Arbor/Earth Day event to provide trail maps, literature, and lots of information about the Conejo Open Space.

Many volunteers turned out for Spring Trail Work Day to complete the construction of a new section of Conejo Open Space trail. This multi-use trail (open to hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians) is in the Dos Vientos area of Newbury Park, just north of Lynn Road. It spans from Reino Road on the east, to Via Las Brisas on the west, and is approximately 1.25 miles in length. There are wonderful views from the upper elevations - an overview of the nearby urban development, the Conejo Valley and its beautiful surrounding mountains to the east, and Mugu State Park to the south. The elevation gain from Reino Road to the trail's highest point is about 350 feet. The elevation gain fom Via Las Brisas to the high point is about 150 feet.
