Volunteers Needed for Trails Education Days
Preparations are underway for the 2007 Trails Education Days, scheduled for April 23 through April 27. This year's annual T.E.D. is expected to be attended by almost 2,000 fifth graders from the Conejo Valley Unified School District. The event begins with a nature hike, followed by animal demonstrations, trail safety and courtesy, and presentations by Park Rangers. In a writing contest, the students describe things they learned during their Trails Education Days, such as information about various plants and animals, the ecology of the area, human impact on the environment, or even becoming a Park Ranger.

Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the program. Training will be provided. For more information or to volunteer, send email to Elayne Haggan, or Julie Osborn, or fill out an online volunteer application.

Making a Difference
At the January Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) Board of Directors meeting, Burt Elliott was recognized for his many years of dedication to our open space. Burt served on the Conejo Open Space Trails Advisory Committee for ten years, and also on the Conejo Open Space Foundation Board of Directors. He continues to play a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of Trail Work Day, Trails Education Days, and various COSCA volunteer projects. Burt has also done major GPS work on our trails to document length, altitude change and trail attributes. Some of his other volunteer activities include: Trail Maintenance Coordinator for the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council, and Backbone Trail hike leader for NPS. All who appreciate the open space owe a debt of gratitude to Burt Elliott for all he has done, and for all he continues to do.

Supporting the Conejo Open Space
The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency recently honored Transitions for its support of the Conejo Open Space. Transitions is a Newbury Park company that helps relocated employees and families make connections in their new community. Recognizing the value of our open space to their clients and to the community, Transitions has made a generous donation to the Conejo Open Space Foundation. Thank you Transitions! And thanks to all supporters of the Conejo Open Space.
